1. Special Summer Program for Middle School Youth

Have you noticed that your life seems to be getting more complicated? Do you feel confused and worried at one moment, then thrilled and exited the next--as if you're on an ENORMOUS roller coaster, and you don't know how you got there, and there's no turning back now?" Join First Universalist's Junior High Summer Program, just for youth entering grades 6-8 this fall, as we explore the theme-- Too Old for This, Too Young for That... : Your Survival Guide for the Middle-School Years (lessons adapted from the book of the same name by Harriet S. Mosatch, PhD and Karen Unger, MA). Each Sunday morning from 10:00-11:00 am, we'll gather for a short worship and then get down and personal with topics and activities centered around the practical and spiritual issues facing you today ...

Finding, Making and Keeping Friends
Connecting with Your Family
Getting Used to Your Changing Body
Liking the Skin You're In

AND MORE!

You can register for this opportunity on the same form as your registration for RE 2012-2013:http://firstuniv.org/REregistration. If you've already submitted your form, but would like to add summer registration, please contact Katie Heaton, Youth/Young Adult Ministries Coordinator at katie@firstuniv.org. We can't wait to see you this summer!

2. Child Dedication

Our next ceremony will be June 17, during the 10am services. Fill out a child dedication form, available at firstuniv.org/families, and return it to the church office. Contact: lauren@firstuniv.org.

3. Unity Center Opportunities for Youth

Parents!  Consider inviting your youth to get involved with Unity Leadership's first Urban Summer Justice Camp. From July 9 to 12, Unity Center for Youth Leadership will hold a three-day camp with a barbecue and optional overnight on the last night of the camp.  The theme of the camp will be “Let's Talk About Race.”  All of the workshops will have a racial justice focus, exploring how race influences our lives and everyday experiences. Required: registration and $75 fee for food, materials, BBQ, overnight option, and space/staff.  Scholarship application available.  Details and registration: unityleadership.orgContact:  info@unityleadership.org or 612-259-8268. Also, a few stipend leadership opportunities still available for high school youth. Email jglover@unityleadership.org to inquire.

5. Summer Passport for Children

Sundays at 10 am, May 27 through August 26

This summer, our kids can expect active fun every Sunday morning! They will journey with same age friends (4 years through kindergarten, 1st-3rd grade and 4th-5th grade) as they collect stamps in their Seven Principles Summer Passports. Our "travelers" will choose activities that reflect their interests as they learn about our faith, and are invited to follow up with fun activities at home. Nursery care available with Lily for ages 0-3 years.

Summer volunteers can join the fun on Sundays and will receive training and ice cream, too. Questions about the program? Interested in volunteering? Contact Lauren Wyeth, Director of Children, Youth & Family Ministries at lauren@univ.org or 612-825-1701 x 111.

6. For Middle Schoolers: Summer Picnic at Lake Calhoun

Wednesday, July 18 from 5:30-7:30 pm
Bring a dish to share and your favorite outdoor game to the picnic grounds by the beach volleyball courts at Lake Calhoun! We'll hang out, grill yummy food, make s'mores and play bonding games together.

7. Fun Outing (TBD): Wednesday, August 8

Get away from church and into the wide world with a social outing in August. Past activities included tubing on the Cannon River and a trip to Minnesota Renaissance Festival! Ideas for a fun outing? Want to help coordinate? Contact Katie Heaton, Youth/Young Adult Ministries Coordinator at katie@firstuniv.org. Stay tuned for more details.
