CURRICULUM
2 & 3 Year-Olds: Growing Together
Our two and three year-olds celebrate Sundays with stories, music, games and creative activities. They begin to experience the basic building blocks of church as a place of friendship, growth, and nurturing.
4 & 5 Year-Olds: Chalice Children
This UU curriculum helps nurture the spiritual growth of our four- and five- year-olds. Our Chalice Children will begin to explore topics such as birth and death, prayer, ritual, God, religious community, and the importance of wonder in our spiritual lives. They will connect with the natural world and each other through varied activities, worship, songs, and children’s literature.
Kindergarten: Rainbow Path -- Caring Covenants
In this year of the Rainbow Path our kindergarteners learn about the Seven Principles of Unitarian Universalism, covenants & promises, God, peace, UU history and tradition, and much more! In addition, they will participate in the Families All Matter Anti-Bias Book Project.
1st and 2nd grade
Rainbow Path I: Making a Difference
In this year of the Rainbow Path our first and second graders learn about the Seven Principles of Unitarian Universalism, with a special focus on hope and commitment. The children hear a different story every week, play games, and have fun with projects as they explore their beliefs and our common UU values.
3rd & 4th grade
Stories from Our Sources: World Religions
Unitarian Universalism teaches us that there is wisdom to be found in all the religions of the world. During this year, our third and fourth graders learn about Islam, Earth Centered Religions, Hinduism, Sikhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Buddhism, Judaism and Christianity. Grounded in a UU perspective, through story, drama, art, and song, the children are introduced to the many truths and many faiths that color our earth and enrich our lives.
5th & 6th grade
Stories from Our Sources: The Life and Times of Jesus
In this curriculum, the fifth and sixth graders look at stories from the Life and Times of Jesus. They learn lessons from our Jewish and Christian heritage, and examine how those lessons inform our beliefs and actions as modern-day religious liberals. As biblical literacy is a part of any Westerner’s heritage, we help our young people become familiar with parables such as The Lost Sheep and The Prodigal Son, learn the miracle stories, and examine the impact of Jesus as a social and religious reformer—all through a UU lens.
