Our Commitment to Social Justice
The commitment of the congregation today to “justice, equity and compassion in human relationships’ flows directly from the congregation’s earlier commitment to “overcome evil and progressively establish the kingdom of God” here on earth.
Social justice work continues to be in the forefront of the church’s activities and there are many opportunities for involvement. First Universalist Church was one of the early churches in the UUA to become a welcoming congregation for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons. Stands on civil rights and as a sanctuary of peace remain solidly behind the Faith in Action work. Women have had a voice in the church and in the greater community since the earliest days.
