First Universalist Church was one of the earliest Welcoming Congregations for the LGBT community, and has participated in numerous rallies and marches on behalf of rights over the years, including the current Standing on the Side of Love initiative.
1. For LGBT Youth: Here is the link to the amazing video stories some of our congregants shared to benefit LGBT youth, especially those feeling hopeless and isolated, as part of the ItGetsBetter.org project.
2. Issue: Marriage amendment
First Universalist is involved in interfaith collaborations to fight the proposed marriage amendment that would limit civil marriage to that between 'one man and one woman.' A group of congregants is gathering to participate in a September 19 potluck and planning session (Monday, 6pm, Hennepin Avenue Methodist Church, 511 Groveland, Minneapolis) to work toward defeat of the proposed amendment.
