This Sunday launches our worship theme Sex and Spirit

What do spirituality and sexuality have to do with each other? In fact, putting these two ideas in the same sentence might feel like an oxymoron. Still, if we affirm the Unitarian Universalist principles of people’s inherent worth and wholeness, equity and compassion in human relationships, and the deeply interconnected web of life, then we must speak about sexuality. This month we explore the power, and goodness, of the body. We will hold the concerns and wounds of those who have experienced sexuality as a form of abuse rather than a form of pleasure, while reclaiming the body and the erotic as a resource within each of us. Like the great poet Rumi reminds us, our body may be our greatest teacher. Sexuality is not separate from spirituality, but rather the erotic, the “physical, emotional, psychic expressions of what is deepest and strongest and richest within each of us (Audre Lorde)” is the source of sacred power.
