Explore Spiritual Practice

Contemplative Silence Group meets 1st and 3rd Sundays, from 5:00-6:15 p.m. for seated silence, walking meditation, and simple chanting. This group is open to all and led by Rev. Kate Tucker.

Buddhist Meditation and Study Group, 7:00-8:45, Thursdays April 8 through May 27. This group is open to all. We will be studying the book Being Upright by Reb Anderson. Each week there is a short presentation and discussion, followed by 1/2 hour of sitting meditation and ten minutes of walking meditation.

Walk the Labyrinth: First Universalist Church has a beautiful Chartres-style labyrinth etched into the floor of the Social Hall.  Open Walks are held monthly. Join us for the next open walk on April 6, 2010, anytime between 6:30 and 8:00 p.m.

Sermon-Based Small Groups meet twice monthly for four months.  These small groups of 8-10 people are meant to engage you in the spiritual practice of deep listening, get to know a small number of people you might not normally meet, reflect on how your life experience informs your faith (and vice-versa), and act together to serve the larger community.  It is not a forum for debate or a therapy group. This winter our groups will center their discussions around four themes:

  • Forgiveness
  • Doubt
  • Sustainable Living
  • Success & Failure

Groups are now closed.  Sign-ups to join the next round of small groups will open in June 2010.

Deepen Unitarian Universalist Identity

New members are encouraged to join Foundations of Our Faith, a group that meets monthly for lunch and conversation, meant to deepen your understanding of UUism and your membership at First Universalist Church. You must sign up to participate in this class; contact Sandy in the church office, 612-825-1701 x125.

Other classes about Unitarian Universalist history and identity are offered throughout the year.  Watch the website for upcoming events.

For information about any of these groups, contact Heidi Mastrud, Director of Congregational Life, at 612-825-1701 x124.
