Visual Arts
The Visual Arts Committee meets at 7pm on the second Monday of each month (usually in the Library) and has a variety of responsibilities for the appearance of our church home. These include:
- Sunday Morning Floral Arrangements: Each display is hand-crafted by a volunteer. Contributions in honor of special events or special people are always welcome to help defray the costs.
- Seasonal Decorations: A special decor is created for the holiday season and for other important events in the church year.
- Exhibitions (see below): A series of displays of original art is presented in the social hall (lower level). Artists are chosen competitively, and each display is shown for about six weeks.
Anyone is welcome to participate in the activities of the committee. Contact the church office at (612) 825-1701 for more information, or talk to Sandy at The Hub on Sundays.
2011-2012 Art Exhibits
First Universalist has a long tradition of exhibiting original work by regional artists. Art work is displayed in the gallery located in the church social hall. In some, but not all cases, items are available for purchase. Often additional items are for sale during the artists’ receptions. In the calendar of exhibits below, the date listed in red is when the artist will be on hand at a post-service reception to get better acquainted with congregants.

Gennie Alberti
Spiritual art: paintings, drawings and digital prints
Genevieve Alberti is an art student at the University of Minnesota. Her exhibit, “Exploration of Spirituality, Mythology and Self”, will be on display in the social hall from May 16th through July 15th. The gallery consists of paintings, prints, and sculptures made from a wide variety of materials. As a parallel to the currently ongoing senior high Coming of Age program, which Genevieve herself participated in six years ago, these pieces were created with the intent to not only artistically express herself but also to re-envision her own spiritual beliefs. She has drawn creative and spiritual inspiration from comparative mythology, Jungian psychology, spiritual alchemy, and the Tarot. An opening reception is scheduled for Sunday, May 20, after both services.
